Friday Update 6-14-24
Updated On: Jul 21, 2024

Brothers and Sisters,

It is with a heavy heart tonight that we share the Line of Duty Death of Fire Fighter Andrew Pontious on Friday, June 14, 2024.

Fire Fighter Pontious was assigned to Fire Station 93 in the City of Palmdale.  He faithfully served our Department along with Los Angeles County residents and communities for over 19 years.

We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the family, friends of Brother Pontious.

To ensure the proper care and support of the Pontious family and our personnel, Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone has activated the Department’s chaplains, Peer Support team, behavioral health clinicians, and Memorial Management team.

RIP Fire Fighter Pontious 🙏🏼💔🕊

Tonight, we have all experienced a sobering reminder of the very real dangers we face daily on the job. While we are focused on making sure that members immediately affected by this incident are taken care of by our Peer Support Teams, Chaplains, and Memorial Management Team, we know the impact of this incident reaches far beyond the Battalion.

Please remember that Peer Support is available for anyone who needs it.  As a Fire Family, we will all be feeling the impacts of this incident in the coming weeks. If you feel overwhelmed, please use the resources in your station and the link above to get the help you need.

Stay safe and take care of each other as we navigate the next steps in honoring our fallen brother and healing.

In Solidarity,

President Dave Gillotte and the Local 1014 Executive Board
