Our thoughts and prayers are with Local 3631 President Chris Hamm, Fire Chief Fenessey, and the brothers and sisters of Orange County Fire Authority. A Local 3631 OCFA handcrew buggy was returning from the Airport Fire when it rolled numerous times on Highway 241, critically injuring several members of the handcrew. Eight members were transported via ground ambulance and air ambulance to local trauma centers for treatment. At least six of the members are hospitalized in critical condition. The injuries sustained are significant and will require patience, the best medical treatment available, and our prayers.
President Gillotte has spoken to President Hamm, and Chief Marrone to Chief Fennessey and our collective department resources are available to assist Local 3631 with Peer Support and Peer Support canines in place. The members of 3631 also need our help through their GoFundMe and Fallen Firefighter Trust to aid the families of the injured. Please take a moment and do what you can to help. |

IAFF MEMORIAL
Our brothers and sisters from the United States, Canada, and Guam will be honored at the annual IAFF Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Colorado Springs this weekend. This year, LA County Fire Fighters. This year, Local 1014 will not be placing any names on the wall, but we stand with our Union alliances as they do. We also honor all who have passed in previous years, as well as many families and friends who have journeyed to Colorado Springs to pay tribute.
As always, our Honor Guard and Pipes and Drums represent our imagery, pride, and tradition as part of the Pipes and Drums Corps. Marching down the lawn to the memorial in solidarity to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to love and honor their families. WE SHALL NEVER FORGET. |

We invite all IAFF members, friends, and family to join us virtually for the 2024 IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial tomorrow, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. (MT).
The Memorial will pay tribute to the lives of 308 brothers and sisters who died in the line of duty.

LOCAL 1014 MEMBERS ARE RETURNING FROM THE FIRE LINES
Airport Fire / Bridge Fire / Line Fire and our local Fires, including the Antelope Valley, where a 3rd alarm brush was warm for the Bridge firefight in Wrightwood when the fire turned and made a run for the city and all the houses, cabins, ranches, and businesses. Entire neighborhoods were saved as a result of the aggressive work to get folks out and to establish firefights following TRA positions to keep the houses standing and intact in the neighborhoods we protected. Firefighters even had to contend with a pesky bear cruising up and down the streets as they worked looking for our MREs or sack lunches. Thank you to the communities we served who also showed up to say thank you and acknowledge the hard and dangerous work to save their town.
Local 1014 members could have staffed even more Type 1 Strike Teams this last fire event weekend for all fires and our jurisdictions, but the sad reality of our fleet is upon us as we struggle to come up with enough engines to send and backfill. This highlights our need for funding for apparatus and equipment and more staffing through our Fire Measure E. Thank you to all our fire family and the brothers and sisters on the front lines for making it all happen. The public we are entrusted to protect saw what we do and was grateful for our work. PEER SUPPORT RELATIONSHIP WEBINAR
The Los Angeles County Fire Department Peer Support Team is hosting a webinar on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 1900 hrs. This webinar is available to all Fire Department personnel and their significant others and will focus on critical issues in relationships that are specific to the fire service.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from Los Angeles County Fire Fighters Local 1014 Director of Behavioral Health and Lead Clinician Dr. Steven Froehlich and a panel of our culturally competent contracted clinicians, Niki Stepanian LMFT, Dr. Lyndee Venosta, and Dr. Carl King.
The purpose of this seminar is to provide a forum for our personnel to discuss critical issues that affect firefighter relationships and to learn new skills and tools to take better care of ourselves and each other.

POLITICAL ACTION
In City political action, Local 1014 Vice Presidents Kurt Kobler and Tony Carcioppolo, along with their Directors, interviewed and evaluated over 100 local city races to endorse candidates supporting our issues and our department. We will include them in the voter guide that goes out to all firefighters in the IAFF and CPF and LA County so we catch all our members living in our districts.
We have endorsed candiadtes in POMONA, EL MONTE, HAWTHORNE, SOUTH GATE, LA HABRA, SANTA CLARITA, SIGNAL HILL AND HERMOSA BEACH to name a few contract cities. We are also involved in our district cities and communities. Mail and voter contact support will be on the way to the mailboxes and polling places as we near November 5th.
As always, Local 1014 works hard to ensure that we elect people who support our members and the work we do. Political action at the local level is the most important thing we do to ensure we continue to protect our members and our profession. |

| LA COUNTY FIRE SAFETY - MEASURE E
Starting October 7th with vote by mail ballots and on November 5th at the polls, Fire District voters will get to decide on the future of their Fire Department with regard to funding. This measure will give our department the first new money in over 50 years to provide an apparatus purchase/lease program to ensure we have modern, effective fire apparatus and equipment each and every year and on schedule for replacement.
The measure also provides funding for new staffing, allowing us to move to 4-0 staffing on every engine over time, a long-term goal of the Union. The measure has protections for elderly low-income households. It has the support of the LA Federation of Labor, the LA Democratic Party, and the CPF, along with other alliances in our small and medium business and residential communities.
This funding is desperately needed, and we must come together to work on passing this measure in our communities. This funding can only be used by the FIRE DISTRICT and CANNOT be controlled or used by the Board of Supervisors or any other entity and will apply to all contract cities also, allowing us to bargain to increase staffing in those understaffed cities. The Measure needs 50% plus one, and while polling and focus groups indicate it will be close, we can achieve the voter-required support with our excellent digital, TV, and mail campaigns. We also need your help during GOTV week leading up to November 5th. Get ready to work with us, spending a little time at your Union Hall to protect your future and our job.
