Friday Update 12-13-24
Updated On: Dec 23, 2024

Brothers and Sisters,
THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS!

Your Local 1014 Executive Board would like to thank all the hard-working men and women for their work on the Franklin Fire. We know that being recalled to backfill stations, camps or being on the fire can be taxing on your families, especially this time of the year during the holiday season. Your sacrifice to this profession is not forgotten. The community has been beyond thankful for our service as well.

Thank you to your families for being understanding as many of us have missed holiday gatherings and kids' holiday performances. They should be proud of the work everyone has done. We truly are difference-makers to those we serve.

Local 1014 would also like to thank those who help make everything happen behind the scenes quietly and who aren’t actually fighting fires. Thank you to our dispatchers, who are over-taxed when major events and fires happen as well. They are part of our membership that takes input back from the rank and file in the field to ensure we are successful and have everything we need while on incidents. They are in charge of resource ordering, resource tracking, monitoring radio traffic and handling an increased number of calls due to major fires such as the Franklin Fire. Thank you dispatch, for your sacrifice from your families and for helping keep us safe.

As always, we are proud and honored to represent the men and women who keep LA County safe.

Negotiations Update

This week, again, Local 1014 met with the Department for contract negotiations. We are still actively and aggressively negotiating for items for the betterment of our membership. Local 1014 continues the fight at the bargaining table and at the State level for Plan C parity.

We will likely continue these negotiations following the new year.  We continue to fight for our members and their families on both this table and soon our fringe benefits bargaining table for a secure and healthy future for our families. We will keep you up to date as negotiations evolve.

CPF Update- Pension Reform

Your CPF Executive Board and California Fire Foundation met in Sacramento for two days of work setting the Legislative Priorities for 2025.

President Gillotte, representing the 7th District - LA County, took our Post-PEPRA reform proposals and joined other districts in assuring our convention-led resolutions are now turned into legislative action efforts at the capitol.  Our list includes reducing the retirement age from 57 to 55, returning an average of the three highest years of compensation to the single highest year for final compensation calculations, and also looking at the annual cap and other items that may be changed by state law action.  The Board adopted a full legislative agenda, including state budget work that includes plans on camp and wildland and aircraft funding priorities for Local 1014 and Cal Fire for our SRA areas and grey book staffing.

In addition, the California Fire Foundation met to empower our work for the Memorial Expansion Project in Sacramento and to ensure our families of the fallen Dan Terry Scholarships are funded and rewarded to the children of our fallen to help with college and trade school training costs.   We also began work on our first Firefighter assistance grants for behavioral health needs for firefighters in California.

Cal Fire Foundation SAVE Program Available to those Impacted by the Franklin Fire

The California Fire Foundation - our foundation, through the CFF-JAC, supports any Local 1014 Members whose homes have been impacted by the Franklin Fire. Easing that burden is what the California Fire Foundation’s Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) program is all about. It brings immediate, short-term relief to victims of home fires throughout California.

The SAVE card is a $250 gift card given to eligible survivors of fire and natural disasters by firefighters on scene who are enrolled in the SAVE program. This allows survivors to purchase basic necessities such as food, clothing, gas, medicine, or a place to stay the night in the immediate aftermath of a house fire.

The California Fire Foundation, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, provides emotional and financial assistance to families of fallen firefighters, firefighters and the communities they protect. Formed in 1987 by California Professional Firefighters, the California Fire Foundation’s mandate includes an array of survivor and victim assistance programs and community initiatives.

If you are an LA County Fire Fighter or Lifeguard through LACOLA and need help, please reach out to the California Fire Foundation at save@cpf.org or (916) 641-1707.
