Friday Update 1-10-25
Updated On: Jan 21, 2025

Brothers and Sisters,

This week, we are incredibly grateful and proud of every single one of our members. Local 1014 members have been working day and night non-stop, battling unprecedented wind-driven fires across LA County. Thanks to all our brothers and sisters out on the front lines, in the dispatch center, the camps, and the offices that support the work in the field as we battle unprecedented wind events and destruction across the County.

As so many have lost homes and businesses, our members are also affected as they fight the fires. We regret to inform you that parts of Camp 8 were damaged in the Palisades Fire. Our members were there to save parts of the dorm and kitchen. Fire Station 66 was threatened along with the Sheriff Station, but through the hard work of our members, those were saved.

As we have seen on the news over the last week, our members have heroically rescued people and property despite the immense tragedy and loss. Without the valiant effort of the men and women of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the destruction and loss of life would have been much worse.

Your Union is working diligently with the Department to plan for staffing to relieve those who need it and plan for another round of wind events next week. We are here for you and your families. Please contact the Executive Board with any needs, and we will ensure you are supported.

Many of our Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel and their families have lost their homes and their belongings. As a Fire Department family, we mourn with them and look to support them through these trying times.

Our Peer Support Team has been working with many of those affected and is looking to identify others who have not yet been reached. The Peer Support team is working with command staff on a plan to make sure that all Fire Department Personnel get any behavioral health resources needed expeditiously.

If you or someone you know has been affected and would like to participate in upcoming debriefings, please fill out the Cognito form below by scanning the QR code. If you or someone you know would like to talk to a Peer Support Team member or Clinician privately you may contact Captain Steve Blackburn (213) 424-5729, Captain Vince Roldan (213) 507-1782 or FFS Cory Leone (213) 671-8133. Click here for the full EA and Peer Roster.

The California Fire Foundation and the IAFF are on the ground with support for residents through the SAVE Card and Disaster Relief. If you are an IAFF Member of Local 1014 or any Local and you have any loss or damage, we have IAFF Disaster Relief.

The IAFF Foundation provides immediate financial assistance to help displaced fire fighters and their families while they continue to serve the surrounding communities.

Disaster Relief funds are available to IAFF members who are displaced from their homes as the result of a disaster. These include man-made disasters, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and other events.

Cal Fire Foundation SAVE Program is Available to those Impacted by the fires

The California Fire Foundation - our foundation, through the CFF-JAC, supports any Local 1014 Members whose homes have been impacted by fires. Easing that burden is what the California Fire Foundation’s Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) program is all about. It brings immediate, short-term relief to victims of home fires throughout California.

The SAVE card is a $250 gift card given to eligible survivors of fire and natural disasters by firefighters on scene who are enrolled in the SAVE program. This allows survivors to purchase basic necessities such as food, clothing, gas, medicine, or a place to stay the night in the immediate aftermath of a house fire.

The California Fire Foundation, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, provides emotional and financial assistance to families of fallen firefighters, firefighters and the communities they protect. Formed in 1987 by California Professional Firefighters, the California Fire Foundation’s mandate includes an array of survivor and victim assistance programs and community initiatives.

If you are an LA County Fire Fighter or Lifeguard through LACOLA and need help, please reach out to the California Fire Foundation at save@cpf.org or (916) 641-1707.
